Forget about those shoes that are half-off and the latest and greatest video game console — #GivingTuesday is a breath of fresh air after your frenetic holiday search for the perfect buy. Now in its second year, #GivingTuesday was created as an antidote to the shopping frenzy that comes with Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Rally.org is partnering with #GivingTuesday to showcase a collection of non-profit organizations that are tirelessly working to improve living conditions, create cures and rebuild lives.
Causes featured in this collection include:
WaterAid: An international organization dedicated to improving water and sanitation in dozens of countries is embarking on a huge campaign to raise $50,000 in 24 hours. Each donation made today will be matched by an anonymous donor, amounting to double the good for families in need of cleaner, safer water.
The Immunity Project: A team of scientists and entrepreneurs has created a novel phase 1-ready HIV vaccine. They’re looking to further develop what could be one of the safest vaccine platforms ever developed and are leveraging #GivingTuesday to raise awareness about this opportunity of historic proportions.
TECHO: TECHO.org is building transitional houses for extremely poor families in Puebla, Mexico. A San Franciscan do-gooder named Marian Zizzo has decided to help TECHO by starting a Rally campaign to raise $10,000 — enough to build 10 homes in Mexico. She’s engaging friends to take #unselfie photos on #GivingTuesday to help spread the word. Tweet out one of your own to @TECHOus and mention @Rally with the hashtag “#GivingTuesday”.
So for the next 24 hours, put aside that growing wish list of things, things and more things. Make one simple and definitive choice: contribute to a cause you genuinely believe in and know you’ve taken one assured step toward building a brighter future.
